Great place in Bundaberg to do your 88 days. The rent is a bit expensive but the work is consistent and fairly well paid.

Ooooo what a scam! If you decide to go there anyway after reading the reviews, don't say you weren't warned.

This is a truly dreadful hostel and the practices they employful are unhelpful, bordering on deceitful. We arrived in Bundaberg late at nigth and this was the only accomodation we could find open. After searching the lively bar area I found a member of staff to check us in, who took a damage deposit and key desposit (equivalent to roughly 100 for two people) and asked us to sign a declaration saying we'd forfeit the key deposit if the key was not returned. Because it was late they told us the computer was off and they couldn't provide a receipt for the deposits. He then took us to an empty dorm room. The state of the place was quite literally the worst I've encountered anywhere in the world - dusty floors and surfaces, holes in the bed sheets and pillow cases, etc. I didn't like the look of it but reluctantly agreed to stay. At this point, the person who checked us in said there were no keys for the dorm. Because of the declaration we'd signed and the lack of receipt, I asked for something in signed in writing. The man assured us this was not necessary and that we'd get out money back on checking out regardless. I didn't trust him and questioned whether he'd personally be on the desk in the morning, which he confirmed was not the case. On this basis I firmly but politely insisted on some sort of note explaining that money had been taken for a key we'd not received. The man became irritable and said we were free to get our money back and leave but that we'd not find anywhere else to sleep that night. After failing to negotiate the requested receipt, which elicited a torrent of abuse we got our money back and left before driving to a nearby beach and spending an uncomfortable but clean and free night in the car. Many reviews across 2 or 3 sites confirm that this place habitually withold deposits on shaky grounds and it seems I was right to trust my instincts, get my money and leave when I did. I would absolutely not recommend anyone stays here. I don't give 1-star reviews lightly but this was absolutely justified, even though I never stayed.

I went to Cellblock Backpackers, during a night out with some friends. The music was great, the drinks and the service were also good as well! It was a fun atmosphere and I'd recommend it to others and visit again myself

Nice, clean hostel with AC rooms. Well equipped, pool and bar and tvs. Good work for 88 days farm/regional work.
